"His guide service is on top of movements of fish according to the seasons, which is key, especially under different weather conditions. They keep in contact with each other to make sure that all of the guides are getting fish for their clients, at least giving them the best opportunity for success. Sean is also a great person to spend a day with in a boat, which is a great attribute when fishing all summer with different people."

Sean Colter carried two large walleye up to the stage to be weighed at Saturday’s Angler Young Angler International fishing tournament held on Lake of the Woods. He had to make a second trip to bring in his third allowed fish.

The scale had to be calibrated because Colter’s catch weighed too much to be registered. Once the scale was ready they were registered over 21 lbs.

No one came close to the weight so Colter and his team from Minnesota celebrated the win under the Harbourfront tent.

Colter fished with his daughter Jordyn and her best friend’s brother Tyler Danielson.

“I’ve been doing tournament fishing for a long time,” Colter said. “But, to be up here with my daughter and her friend, I’m a little emotional right now.”

Having the young anglers out on the lake with him, Colter said they’re now hooked on fishing for life. Each member of the team played a part, he said.

“I pretty much got the worms and the nets,” said Jordyn.

This year, the grand prize for Angler Young Angler International was a trip for 6 to Miminiska Lodge in Thunder Bay and Walt Disney World, Orlando.

“I’m going to Disney,” Jordyn said smiling.

“It’s been the most incredible tournament for me,” Colter said. “And I guess we’re going to Disney World.”

To qualify for the Angler Young Angler International, teams had to win their regional Angler Young Angler tournament.

The Colter team qualified for the tournament by winning the Angler Young Angler Grand Rapids tournament in Minnesota. There they tipped the scales with over 21 lbs. as well.

The Kenora team of Paul Forsyth, Coel Forsyth and Ben Scott were in the hot seat for a little bit, but couldn’t quite hold on. They qualified for the tournament after their win at the Angler Young Angler Red Lake. The Forsyth recorded a weight a little over 16 lbs. Saturday, which included one huge walleye, to finish fourth overall.

When asked what the highlight of the tournament was, Scott replied: “Catching the big fish.”
