Warm Fall days, shallow water Walleyes and jigs and minnows makes for some fantastic fishing. The Fall bite continues to gain consistenency on many area lakes including Winnie.
The Winnie Walleyes are getting closer and closer to that Fall frenzy many of us look forward to each season. Many of the typical shoreline Fall areas continue to fill with Walleyes. We have found the weedbeds located on the North, East and West shorelines to hold active fish over the last week. The Muskie Bay area has been my first choice this week, with most of the Walleyes coming from that 5-7 feet of water. The jigs and minnows have shown to be the presentation of choice on many days, but other days the Walleyes continue to like those night crawlers behind a Lindy rig.
Each day it seems the minnows start the day out and by noon or so the crawlers have taken over until late in the day. The depths vary pending to the depth of each weedbed, but the consistent bite is the outside edge of the weeds.
During the Fall frenzy, when jig fishing many days those that aggressively jig get much more action and again this year it seems the more aggressive one jigs that minnow, the more action we are finding. Tipping that 1/16 to 1/8 oz. MAXGAP jig with a Golden Shiner or Rainbow Chub, is all one needs.
If Walleyes are not the fish or choice for you, the Crappie, Perch and Northern Pike action continues to be very good on most lakes in the area. Winnie is no exception with most of the Crappies on Winnie coming from that 15-20 feet of water.
So, with many of the Fall activities in place, the fishing around the area continues to improve and as we see those water temps slowly fall into the fifties, look for the Fall frenzy to become a time were more great memories can be made.
See ya out there,
