Before getting to the weekly update, I just want to thank all of you for another great open water season. This year was one that was filled with many great trips to Red, Winnie and Pokegama. I will say that the only dissappointment was our Fall bite on Winnie. I will end the season next week and start focusing on those big bucks and being a husband and father again. Thanks again for the great season. I'll continue to send updates on the hunting success and as we get that first ice, I'll keep you in the loop on those opportunities.
With the ghosts and goblins of Halloween coming again this season, most anglers, including myself, are staring at the end of another fishing open water season. But with the October full moon still upon us, there is no better time than now to get that last outing in for that night fishing for a Walleye of a life time. I will be on Mille Lacs looking for that trophy. Pokegama, year in and out, produces some of the biggest fish this time of the year and this season should be no different. The water temps are ranging in the mid fifties making for perfect big fish nights.
What about the Fall bite from Winnie? It has been slow at best. We have found some Walleyes each outing but that ever-so-wanted frenzy bite has just not shown up like normal, making for some days of slow action on the Walleyes. The one bright spot this last couple of weeks has been the fantastic Jumbo perch action. We have found a large school of perch on Tamarack point and the size and numbers have made for some great catches.
So if you're heading to Winnie, I would look for some of the better action in Cutfoot, mainly the structure in Bowens Bay. The fish are wanting jigs and minnows some parts of the day and the other parts they are still liking night crawlers.
So as the fishing season so comes to an end, the thoughts of big Whitetail bucks begin to fill the thoughts of many outdoor enthusiasts. Each deer season brings on good times, memories and great stories. If you are headed out to check stands or sight those rifles in, please use caution as keeping those outings safe makes for the best memories. It looks like this deer season should be one filled with success for most hunters as the deer herd in Northern Minnesota sure seems strong.
Next week I will hint on some great safety tips for those hunters heading out in pursuit of the big buck.
See ya out there,
