The boat has sold, thanks to all of those trying to help me sell it and I'm already looking forward to next year's boat and trips. Next year, I may likely be upgrading to a wheel boat with a much larger motor. Due to the fact that I am starting to hit the tournament trail with much more intensity, a boat that moves 55-60 MPH is a must, but if not, I will be running the exact same package, either way I am excited for the new boat.
Enough about the boat, lets talk deer hunting!!! I hope everyone has a great time and success. If you get a trophy, please forward me a picture, I like seeing those big bucks, it's darn near as exciting as seeing those 10-pound Walleyes coming to the boat. I would be happy to post those pics with the weekly letters. GOOD LUCK HUNTING!
The excitement of another Whitetail deer season is upon us, and this year, like most others, is no different. Expect great numbers of deer and the fairly warm temperatures that have blessed us this Fall.
The last week has shown some great buck activity in the woods as those males begin the annual rut. Most of the rutting activity has been taking place just in the last week making for some exciting days ahead. The season should be another successful one with the numbers of deer that fill the acres of woods here in the Northland. Please be safe this hunting season and make this one another great memory for years to come.
As the deer hunting settles in, many to most of the anglers, have tucked the boat into storage, but those still in pursuit of the last rod bending opportunity have found many of the local lakes, including Winnie, productive. Most of the Walleyes, from what I have heard, are now sliding into the deep wintering grounds awaiting the onset of another Northern Minnesota Winter. This time of the year many of the 30-40 foot holes throughout Cutfoot can produce some fantastic numbers. Here, a simple 3/8 to 1/2 oz. jig tipped with a medium to large fathead or Rainbow Chub fished vertically will produce best. As for me, I now chase the Whitetails awaiting that first ice.
So with the Fall nearing its end and the onset of Winter coming quicker by the day, please use caution, whether your chasing those Walleyes or Whitetails.
Good Luck with those deer,
