The new LUND 1900 ProV LE has showed up and now we wait for the motor. After pulling the cover off and getting a good look at it, I will say that I think I am going to be one happy angler this summer. I hope everyone is making it through the recent cold snap. As for me, the fishing has slowed over the last two weeks as I get into the boat shows and sport shows, but I will be back on the ice in the next week or so. Likely, it will be after those huge Red Lake Crappies.
The recent cold couple of weeks has sure made things interesting in the ice fishing world for many anglers. The cold snap has added a number of inches to the ice depth, but the short bursts of snow and wind have made for some less convienent travels as those snow drifts are packed and difficult to see.
The fishing has again showed some good days and some not good days. With another season of Walleye fishing in the book, most anglers are looking for those Perch and Panfish. Many of the local lakes like Bass, Rice, and Splithand are typical Panfish lakes which can make for some great action when the bite is on.
Big Jay Gould is one of the the closest good Perch fishing lakes in the area and typically produces some very nice catches of Jumbo perch. Out near the Island in depths ranging from 8-20 feet will normally be where one can find those Perch.
No better time than now to get out and explore some of the smaller lakes in the area for those Panfish. With all the Panfish pressure over the last few years heading to mainly Red Lake, many of the local lakes are holding good numbers and size for Panfish.
Last but not least is Red Lake. The reports continue to improve, with good reports coming more consistently from the North end now. Anglers that adventure out 7-9 miles and are willing to keep drilling holes until finding an active school are those finding the most success. The word up there again is huge Crappies, but I have heard some good reports of Jumbo perch.
See ya out there,
