Spring has arrived. Well at least that is what the calendar tells us. It looks like the warmer Spring days might be a week or so out, but no better time than now to start thinking of those fine details that will the upper hand in your boat this coming season.

With all the new technologies that have surfaced in the fishing industries over the last few years, this week's product might be the simplest advancement that will help Walleye anglers catch more fish consistently. Drift socks or bags have been around for a number of years, but many anglers in Northern Minnesota have used homemade gadgets like the five gallon bucket and are just now seeing the increasing importance of the the drift sock. Lindy Tackle company has two of the most advanced style of drift socks. Drift control and Tamer. Both brands have taken the drift socks to the highest level in the industry and have a sock or bag for all situations.

The drift socks play the critical piece to boat control and speed control. With Walleyes being a fish of fine details, two important aspects to consistently catching fish is boat location and speed of presentations. The next time you are on the water and whether you are drift fishing or trolling an edge, keep an eye on those using a drift sock, I will bet you they are out-fishing anyone in the area that is not using a drift sock. Now it is not going to be the case everytime, but more times then not.

When running the drift socks, one helpful tip that will help you in controling the boat is sock placement. When back trolling, one should always run the sock out the front of the boat. When drifting with a sock, try to get the sock toward the middle of the boat, placing it on one side of the boat or other.

Walleye fishing continues to be a game of details and anglers that continually focus on the details consistently find and catch more fish. Drift socks are another tool that will give you that upper hand many days. Take a look at the Drift Control and Tamer socks. They are the drift control systems of the fishing industry.

As the Summer moves closer, the fishing opportunities are endless, and I want to tell all anglers about a new Bass league of tournaments. It is called the Bass Wacker tournaments and is based right here in Grand Rapids. It will run throughout the Summer and there are both team competitions and single competitions. For more information on the dates, cost, etc. please call Ben Kellin at 326-8281.

Get those boats ready!
