Happy Fourth of July! Its hard to believe that we are pushing the middle of the Summer already and the kids will be heading back to school again before long.
With the middle of Summer upon us the fishing has, and continues to, show slow stretches, but if you are looking for consistency, the night bite is working wonderfully on many of the area lakes including Pokegama, Trout, and Sugar.
We have been trolling the Salmo sting in the blue/chrome combination and finding the best action in 6-8 feet of water. With the combination of the pull and stop method trolled at 1-1.2 MPH, the walleyes are nearly eating the paint off the lures.
As we head toward the full moon of July, look for the bite to continue to pick up speed. On Pokegama we are finding many different sizes, with many of the fish in the 20-23 inch range. One thing to remember when heading out night fishing is the new state regulation of only one fish over 20 inches. This new length has made for nights of very few keepers, but the size continues to improve.
Please use caution when heading out after dark, especially this weekend.
See ya on the water.
