My boat is for sale. Check it out here.

The fish in the area continue to show more and more movement toward the shallow water even though the water temperatures are in the low 80's.

The walleye action has again showed itself as one of consistency on Lake Winnie. Again this week, the best action has been those shallow water weeds with a number of presentations triggering bites.

For us, we found both Lindy rigs with 3-foot snells tipped with a leech to be effective, and when the action slowed at times throughout the day we would trigger a bite by pulling small, shallow-diving crankbaits through the 6-8 feet of water. Crankbait color was key with the best action coming from a hot perch color or the black/silver combination.

When looking for the best concentration shallow, look for the weeds that contain the most green in them. Many of the shallow weeds have started to die due to high water temperatures and those weeds are holding very few fish. Green weeds that lift 1-3 feet from the bottom tend to hold the better numbers. As the sun hits the middle of the sky, look for the fish to pull out from the weedlines and suspend. When the fish suspend, get those crankbaits out. Don't be afraid of traveling those baits at speeds pushing 3-4 MPH. The fish should hang in those shallows for at least another good week and look for the jigs and minnows to take top honors as those walleyes feed heavily on the young of the year minnows.

With the August full moon moving in quickly, get that night fishing gear ready to go again as those night walleyes are ready for the best fedding cycle of the year on Pokegama. Each year the best month for the after-dark walleyes is August. If your schedule has been filled up to this point, clear a few nights around August 9th, and take those Salmo stings and give Pokegama, Deer, Trout or Sugar a shot. No better time than now to get that fish of the summer.

Keep those coolers filled with water and that sunblock handy, as the summer heat and sun can end an outing quickly if one is not careful.
