My boat is for sale. Check it out here.

A crankin' we will go, a crankin' we will go! Again this week, we have not used a piece of livebait, but rather the #4 Salmo hornet! I must tell you that we have brought a new technique to the forfront with the hornet and once you give them a try, you will rarely want to fish any other way. I am so excited for this bite, all of my customers that have had the chance are surely shocked at the numbers and size of the fish that we are boating. So, as I see Winnie as the typical jig and minnow lake for the Fall, this Fall they simply can't get enough of the hornets. If you're heading to Winnie, stop and get yourself some and you will be amazed at how easy it is and how many fish you catch. We have not only caught walleyes, but perch, northerns, bass, crappies, and bluegills. Give it a shot.

The buzz of the Northland is still coming from the hornets. This amazing buzz is not from the hornets that most are thinking but rather the #4 Salmo hornet crankbait. The walleyes in the area are absolutely eating these baits day in and out. We have been concentrating the efforts mainly on Winnie and Pokegama and the #4 hornet is all we have been using again this week. We are now in the fourth consecutive week with nothing but hornets for a presentation and we continue to put incredible numbers of fish in the boat.

On Winnie we have been mainly fishing the Salmo hornets in 4-8 feet of water. Most of the walleyes continue to suspend and those fishing livebait are finding some fish that want to eat, but day in and out we are out-fishing livebait 10-to-1. A couple of keys that are allowing the hornet to put the best numbers in the boat for us are speed and line length. When running the #4 hornet, 2 MPH is the preferred speed. It seems if we are moving faster or slower the bait is not making the optimum action, which tends to prove for less action. The other piece to the success is line length. Whether we are in 4 or 8 feet of water, the most consistent action is coming when we have 40 feet of line out. This is achieved by using a line counter reel. For those of you not owning a line counter, try placing the bait in the water and with the bail open, give your rod 4 to 5 long sweeps, this will get you in close proximity to that 40 feet of line.

Again this week, the Pokegama after dark bite shows again what an aggressive stocking program will do as I have not seen a consistent night bite like this in at least five years. We have found the most action in the 4-7 feet of water, with many of the large flats holding large schools of 14-15 inch walleyes. The presentations on Pokegama have been the Salmo stings and the #4 Salmo hornet. For both Winnie and Pokegama the hot colors are the hot perch, dace blue, GMO and Pearl Orange.

So as the Fall frenzy continues to get better each day and those walleyes continue to look to feeding on those minnows, don't be left behind this Fall without trying the Salmo Hornets. This hornet has brought us to a new level of fishing on many of the local lakes and will continue to shine as it perfectly matches the hatch that the fish want.

Right now Ben's Bait is the only local store carrying these baits, but Freds Bait and River Rat bait will have them soon. From here until ice up, I will give you a report on the hornet success and I expect that we will be catching hornet walleyes for weeks to come yet.

See ya on the water.
