My boat is for sale. Check it out here.

Another great season is coming to a close. It is the day that I hate most, thinking about putting the boat away for the long winter months ahead. But this will be a year that I can remember as one of many big fish and a number of new techniques that outproduced many of the Northlands typical presentations. From the two hook props to the incredible Salmo Hornets, and those slip bobbers on shallow water rocks.

It was a season that was again a learning experience which is what it is all about. I look forward to the open water season of 2007. For those 2007 trips, please confirm with me the dates and for those of you intersted in booking a trip, please let me know as soon as possible. Have a great fall and hunting season and I look forward to seeing those big buck pictures again this fall. Thanks again for a wonderful season!

With water temperatures hitting the lower forties on most of the lakes in the Northland, fishing has cooled down as well. Fish are starting to show much less activity, but one can still find a good bite throughout the day.

This week's photo of the week comes from Winnie on Friday the 13th with 50 MPH plus gusts of winds. I had the opportunity to fish with two diehards and our hard work did end up paying off, but the hurricane force winds made for some cold and challenging conditions. Thanks to both Rand Olson and Lance for a windy, cold but fun day of fishing!

Lance with one of his Winnie Slot fish! Nice fish Lance, even the fish looks cold!

The hottest bite in the state is coming from Mille Lacs and the fishing is best after dark. I am heading down for the final weekend of the year and after this weekend will get ready for the ever-so-loved Minnestoa Deer opener.

As for the Winnie Walleyes, the vast majority of action is coming from the endless structure of Cutfoot, with a few good bites still coming from the North and West shores. Here a jig and minnow worked in a slow swimming action is putting out the best numbers.

Mille Lacs is producing some huge Walleyes and most of those fish are coming from the number 9 and 12 Salmo stings. Here, one needs to adjust speeds and line lengths throughout the night, but on a typical night one can bank on speeds in the 1.3 to 1.5 MPH range. Again, line length can be the difference in catching and just fishing. Here we find lengths from 60 to 75 feet being the most productive most nights. Finding areas that have transition areas from rock-to-weed or sand-to-weed hold many more of the consistent big fish and numbers of them.

If you have not tried night fishing before and are interested, no better time then now to take that short trip to the south, dress warm, and hang on.

Thanks to all the readers for another wonderful open water season and I will keep the updates coming through the hunting season and through the ice season as we again prepare for open water 2007.

Bring on the ice, after this weekend!
