I must say, from here on out, I will be back to the weekly newsletter and I apologize for the lack of reports over the last couple of weeks. We just finally moved into the new house and the computer is finally hooked back up. Over the last couple of weeks, I have been not only busy with the house, but we were out of town for the first tournament of the year and to top it off, both of my black labs who have been with the family for 10 and 12 years, were put to sleep. But I'm back and will be making sure that I keep all of you in the loop to whats happening in the world of Walleyes here in the Northland.

The wicked wind has shown up and it sure seems to be staying around much more than all of us would like. With the heavy winds from nearly every direction, fishing has been a challenge on many of the large Northland bodies of water, nearly unfishable some days.

So with the heavy winds, one must seek those smaller bodies of water and on those days, it seems we have found Pokegama. The bite on Pokegama, come day or night, has been extremely productive for those Walleyes, with the most impressive part being the number of 28-30 inch Walleyes that we have been bringing to the boat. Even though these fish are not for the table, they are great to catch and even better to have a chance at a catch of a lifetime making for the perfect mount.

Over the last couple of weeks we have seen a consistent day bite roll right into a night bite that has proven to be very effective for those numbers and size of Walleyes. During the day, we have found active Walleyes in the 6-8 feet of water on many of the large flats that are located throughout the main body of Pokegama. On days when the wind slows and the sun shines, many of the active fish are finding that 16-20 feet depth. The day bite is switching to a leech or crawler bite mainly, with a few fishs still liking the jigs and minnows.

As for the leeches and crawlers, one can fish a 6-8 foot Lindy rigged snell or tip a plain hook under a slip bobber and wait for the action to begin. Look for numbers of Walleyes in a variety of lengths with the 14-16 inch classes being strong, along with the 20-inch class.

The night bite is hitting top speed with numbers of fish liking those #4 Salmo hornets in the hot perch or redtail shiner color combinations. While trolling the Salmo hornets after dark, we have been focusing most of our attention in the 7-9 feet of water. When fishing at this depth we have been letting 50-60 feet of line out. We have also seen the shallow water, 4-6 feet, producing later in the evening and here a husky jerk or Salmo minnow have been the ticket. The speed most nights has consistently been in that 1.8 to 2.0 MPH. It is a great time to give Pokegama and many of the other local lakes a chance as they all are producing great numbers of size and eater fish.

With the June full moon on Saturday the 30th, I have two nights available for trips and if you're interested, they are June 28th and the 29th. Look for these nights to be filled with numbers and size. If you're looking for that opportunity to catch a trophy, no better time than now to get out and catch that great Pokegama Walleye.

Please contact me at 999-5710 to book a night fishing trip. This is my new phone number, if you want to try me during the day feel free to call my cell phone at 218-244-2954.

Until next week, keep those lines tight and get out after dark.
