Wow, not one but two hits between the eyes this week as mother nature has shown her power again here in the Northland. First she hits us with a dandy blizzard followed by a number of extremely cold days.

The base of ice that we had prior to Sundays storm is still not enough base to keep the lakes from turning into a bowl of slush. Most area lakes are now filled with slush and the main areas of concerns are near most of the shorelines. A number of the mid-lake cracks are areas which are now slush covered. The fishing report still remains very good on most of the area lakes, Lake of the Woods and Winnie remain the talk of the ice for the walleyes and perch.

The ice is still fishable and no better time then now to look at a couple perfect gifts for the angler this Holiday season. First, with ice condition only getting thicker by the hour, all anglers would appreciate the perfect ice auger. Strikemaster is the top choice. With many models available, the Strikemaster augers make for easy work when it comes to the drilling that hole in the ice. Having the ability to stay mobile is always key during the ice season and the Strikemaster augers make it much easier as drilling that hole is now done with very little effort.
