September 23, 2009
It is Fall even though the summer-like heat has clearly been the pattern over most of September. Water temperatures continue to be as warm or warmer than what we have seen all summer and many of the walleyes are still holding on some of the deep structure on many area lakes.
Winnie continues to produce both deep and shallow. We are consistently taking walleyes on silver and gold spinners with crawlers trolled at 1.0-1.3 MPH and jigs and minnows, along with those Salmo Hornets.
Leech has been a rock bite during the day in 8-12 feet and come night we are finding great numbers of walleyes on the #5 Blue Dace Salmo Hornet trolled around 2.2-2.5 MPH.
Leech and Winnie are producing awesome perch with many of these perch in the solid 10-12 inch range. We are finding many of these active perch in the 10-14 feet of water on many of the secondary breaklines located throughout both bodies of water.
The crappie action is continuing to pick up in those deeper Fall holding patterns. Here we are finding that a vetically jigged minnow on a pink 1/16 oz. Northland Fireball is all one needs once you find them on your Lowrance or Vexilar. The crappies this time of the year will be in water ranging from 15-30 feet. Look for a deep water hole nearest to shore and more than likely you will find suspended crappies.
So with the summer like heat, no better time than now to get out and enjoy some of the best fishing of the year. Don't forget that the October full moon is on the 4th and it should be a great week of numbers and big fish. I will be fishing Leech, hope to see you on the water. If anyone is interested in geting out this Fall, give me a call as I do have some October dates open yet and would enjoy getting you out for a day. Don't forget to swing into Glen's or visit them online at www.glensoutdoors.com to get you gear inclduing those Salmo Hornets and #12 Salmo Stings.
See you on the water trolling Salmo's,
