Hi all,

Well we are finally back at it and from here on out through the Winter months I will try to stay on task with getting you the weekly report. I hope everyone had a great Fall and is ready for the Holidays. As for me, I have spent the last week making the skating rink in my yard for my girls and now turn my attention back to the ice. Happy Holidays and bring on the walleyes.

A week before Christmas and all through our house the excitement for Saint Nick is what it is all about. As the kids get crazy for Christmas morning most anglers like me are awaiting to get out, on the ice that is. Now is the time, as the cold has arrived and the ice thickness has reached 6-12 inches, the ice walleyes are now on my mind.

Many of the area lakes are certainly at the point where one can get out by foot or ATV travel. With the lack of snow, many are holding off yet as the bare ice will increase your odds of making that snowmobile a flower garden.

Winnie is reporting 6-10 inches of ice and many anglers are chasing the walleyes on many of the humps located througout the main body. Here a Northland Buckshot spoon tipped with a minnow head will gain plenty of action. This time of the year having a great mobil portable like the Eskimo's at Glens will make for comfortable, mobile fishing. The two other keys that will increase your odds are a good GPS with the Lakemaster chip to help pinpoint those bars and humps and the one and only Stikemaster auger. When getting to a spot, drill 15-30 holes and work them for 3-5 minutes. If one is not getting a bite or seeing a fish on the Vexilar, keep moving. This time of the year, one should get action throughout the day.

Other lakes in the area that are reporting good action are Red Lake, Lake of the Woods and a number of the local lakes including Pokegama and Splithand. Keep in mind while fishing Pokegama that ice conditions can change drasticlly throughout that lake and be extremely careful around the islands and any area where water flows into or out of the lake.

Be safe and have fun as this time of the year is typically the best ice action of the season,
